An essential part of vaping is the e-Liquid. Basically, there are three main ingredients that make up the average e-Liquid, which include nicotine, flavoring and diluent. The diluents that are used are vegetable glycerin, propylene glycol or a combination of the two. Any Reputable e-Liquid producer will list the ingredients in their products on the labels and/or their websites.
The Most Common Ingredients
e-Liquid or e-Juice is the liquid that is contained within an electronic cigarette. The primary function of the liquid is to deliver nicotine to the user. Once the liquid is heated, a vaporized mist is produced for the user to inhale just as they would the smoke from a conventional tobacco cigarette.
The main ingredients that are contained in practically all types of e-Liquid include the following:
• Propylene Glycol, or PG
This is an organic compound that is produced in a laboratory and is approved by the Food and Drug Administration for a number of different purposes. For example, it can be used in personal and skin care products, theatrical smoke machines, pharmaceutical products and even as an additive in some foods that most people eat on a daily basis.
The propylene glycol that is in e-Liquid acts as a base to produce vapor that provides a strong throat hit. This tasteless, odorless, colorless liquid has been the topic of numerous studies for many years and proven to be safe in a variety of forms, including eCig vapor.
• Vegetable Glycerin, or VG
Vegetable glycerin, which is also known as vegetable glycol, is also a base ingredient of e-Liquid. It comes from vegetable plant oil, which means it is safe and natural. This ingredient helps the e-Liquid produce more vapor, but with less of a throat hit.
Even though nicotine is a highly addictive substance and produces mild side effects, it has not been proven to cause cancer. Similar to caffeine, nicotine is a stimulant that occurs naturally in the leaves of the tobacco plant as well as other plants, such as peppers, potatoes, eggplants and tomatoes.
• Distilled Water
Especially when vegetable glycol is used as the primary base in e-Liquid, the distilled water acts as a diluent and reduces the viscosity of the mixture. In addition to helping to prevent build up, adding the distilled water makes sure the operation of the electronic cigarette device will be smooth and free of problems.
The major attraction to electronic cigarettes is the wide variety of available flavors. While the actual ingredients vary, the flavoring used is generally derived from food grade additives that are approved by the FDA or occur naturally. These flavorings include actylpyrazine, beta-lonone, dimethlpyrazine, ethylpyrazine, linalool, mallic acid, rose oil, trimethylpyrazine and vanillin.
The ratio of each of these ingredients will vary from one e-Liquid to the next. In addition, many vapors prefer to mix different e-Liquids for a more unique blend. The key to the having the most enjoyable electronic cigarette experience is to find the e-Liquid with the ideal mixture to get what you want, whether it is a better throat hit, more vapor or delicious flavor.
